JOHN Brain hailed Craig Chalmers' influence as Wor-cester Rugby Club got their season back on track with a hugely impressive 39-8 win at Wakefield.
The Sixways chief was delighted with his side's display as they racked up seven tries to go back into second spot in National One behind leaders Rotherham.
But he highlighted his fly-half's contribution as the Scottish ace completed only his second game since his summer arrival because of injury problems.
"Craig Chalmers made a big difference for us today," he said. "I always said he would and today he was excellent for us. He gave us that extra composure with the ball and the backs fed off him well.
"No disrespect to Tony Yapp because he has done a good job for us, but Craig made the difference for us."
Ben Hinshelwood and Duncan Roke both bagged two tries, while Joe Ross, Winston Stanley and Jim Jenner -- his first since his return from Newcastle Falcons -- also got on the scoresheet in a thoroughly professional display.
For Brain, it was the perfect response after seeing his side lose at home to Coventry in their last league outing. "The Coventry game was a massive blow for us," he added. "However, we have reacted in the best possible way.
"We beat Lydney 45-0 in the cup last week and we've come to Wakefield, which is not the easiest of away games, and scored seven tries.
"We've scored a couple of good pushover tries, a try from a driving lineout but also scores from phase play, turnovers and set moves. It was a very positive performance and result."
The former Gloucester coach was particularly pleased with Worcester's high tempo start which had Wakefield on the ropes early on and had the bonus point won by the 31st minute.
"We started well and scored within three minutes. Really we always looked in control and I was pleased with the tempo of our play. I think, on the evidence of our display, reports of our demise have been greatly exaggerated!
"We've made a step forward in our development with this performance and got the show back on the road," said Brain.
