POLICE have contacted the owner of a stolen car after it was dumped in a pond at County Hall.
The Ford Sierra, pushed in by car thieves, sparked fears for wildlife after petrol and oil leaked into the water.
But since the incident, the Environment Agency and Absorb Oil have installed equipment to stop the flow of oil from the pond polluting an adjoining pond.
Firefighters took half-an-hour to hoist the car out of the water after it was discovered by a man walking his dog at about 8.45am yesterday. The car had gone by about 4pm in the afternoon, said Sheila McCarron, assistant facilities manager at County Hall. "I know the owner was contacted by police.
We were afraid that if it was left overnight vandals would perhaps push it back into the water.
The light blue vehicle had to be winched up by firefighters from Worcester Fire Station.
We made sure firstly that no one was in the car, which was good news, said brigade spokesman Alec Mackie.
Worcester police were unavailable for comment this morning.
