OVERCROWDED one-bedroom council accommodation was the subject of a heated debate at a council meeting on Monday, writes Melina Cannon.
Arguments arose after councillor Nigel Hicks proposed a controversial motion, seconded by fellow Liberal Democrat councillor Diane Thomas.
Mr Hicks said highest priority should be given to re-housing families currently in single-bedroom accommodation.
The motion also included 'no child of school age should be expected to sleep in the same room as its parents' and if this occurred due to the lack of a second bedroom, the family should be re-homed 'as if homeless.'
