FAIRFIELD travelled to Sherwood and were forced to play an under-strength side, due to the unavailability of some of their more experienced players.
Both teams started well, trying to play football on a poor pitch. It was 20 minutes into the game before the first real chance was created and Fairfield's keeper Terry Shore denied the Sherwood attacker with a fine save.
Fairfield responded when Laurence Hollywood went close after some good work by Stuart Byng.
Five minutes before the break Sherwood took the lead with a well taken goal from ten yards out.
Fairfield came out in the second half taking the game to Sherwood with Byng forcing a good save from the Sherwood keeper on the hour.
Although Fairfield continued to play good football they had no real cutting edge in front of goal. On 80 minutes Sherwood sealed the points when they broke down the right and a ball into the box was finished by the striker.
