Droitwich Sports (4) 5
Continental Star Reserves (0) 1
Midland Combination Division Three
SPORTS continued their fine run with an impressive display against Continental Star Reserves on Saturday.
After only three minutes, Matt Jenkins lobbed the Star keeper after a great through ball from Smith to put Sports ahead.
Nesbitt should have put Droitwich 2-0 up after ten minutes but shot straight at the keeper. Two minutes later, goal machine Matt Jenkins got his second, rifling home from the edge of the box.
Carl Nesbitt then had two good efforts saved by the Star keeper. After 23 minutes Andy Crowther crossed for Matt Jenkins to nod home his hat-trick after a great through ball from Luke Chance.
Jenkins almost had a fourth when his 30th minute shot rattled the post. Continental Star almost broke through the Sports defence on 38 minutes but a well timed tackle from Martin Smith denied the Star forward.
Crowther then found brother Adie on the edge of the box on 40 minutes who cracked home Droitwich's fourth.
Star started the second half with more purpose and only good goalkeeping from Sport's Melvin Watson prevented the visitors from clawing their way back.
Sports were now relying on counter attacks, and it nearly paid off when Jenkins hit the side netting after a swift break. Then on 63 minutes Yemi Ingram nodded home Sports fifth to put the game beyond doubt.
Star pressed forward but resolute defending from Smith and Williams and fine goalkeeping from Watson denied them any reward.
However, on 82 minutes the Star forward waltzed passed five Sports players to give the away side a small consolation.
Droitwich could have scored more in the last five minutes with Evans, Ingram and Chance all going close, but 5-1 will please managers Keith Smith and Bourne. Sports have now scored 16 goals in their last two games.
