WORCESTER firefighters stood to attention for a different type of inspection.
The city's Mayor, Councillor David Clark, made a visit to the Worcester Fire Station to inspect Blue Watch with his two grandchildren Danica, nine, and Brandon, four.
"Both Danica and Brandon went up the turntable ladder where they could see over the rooftops, and they both held the hose," said Coun Clark.
"The visit was something Brandon was looking forward to for a long time.
"It was a great day and I'd like to thank Blue Watch for everything they did."
This was the Mayor's annual visit to the fire station on Deansway.
"The Mayor and his party were shown various aspects of the fire service," said a fire service spokesman.
Blue Watch, who were on duty at the time, gave a number of demonstrations of their training such as rescuing a dummy from one of the ledges of the station.
The group was also shown equipment firefighters use on the front line.
The new in-vehicle computerised displays showing firefighters what to expect when they are called out and where the nearest hydrants are were also demonstrated, and the Mayor spoke with deputy chief fire officer, David Archer.
"The Mayor also thanked Blue Watch on behalf of all the watches and crews who work around the clock 365 days a year to provide a service to serve the citizens of Worcester and beyond," said the spokesman.
