CHILDREN in Bromsgrove are helping to make sure this year's civic bonfire and fireworks display goes with a bang.
Nearly 200 children are spending this week's half-term holiday making a giant Guy, an enormous rocket and a selection of lanterns for the event on Sunday November 4.
Youngsters are putting their skills to the test to produce the party props through Bromsgrove District Council's Artzone programme at the district's Dolphin, Haybridge and Woodrush leisure centres.
Skilled tuition is provided at each centre and props include thin branches of willow, paper and straw.
The authority's assistant arts development officer, Huw Moseley, said: "Artzone is part of our Activzone children's holiday activity scheme and we are thrilled to be able to be part of this year's bonfire night celebrations."
The 20ft-illuminated rocket, made by youngsters attending the Dolphin Centre, in School Drive, will be on the roof of the pavilion in Sanders Park during the evening's entertainment.
The giant 12ft Guy will of course be on top of the bonfire while the lanterns will be hung on nearby trees.
The fair and roadshow at Sanders Park to celebrate Bonfire Night begins at 4pm on the Sunday.
The bonfire will be lit at 7.30pm with the first fireworks going off at 7.45pm.
