DROITWICH Spa Cricket Club rounded off an enjoyable season on and off the pitch with its annual dinner and dance at the Copcut Elm.
Awards were presented to the following players for their excellent performances over the summer: Mike Gunston (Firsts), Neil Williams (Seconds), Phil Darlison (Thirds).
Mike Rogers and Peter Gunston were awarded the Under-21 and Under-16 Player of the Year trophies respectively.
Both the Saturday First and Second teams can reflect on a successful season, which saw them finish third and fourth in their respective divisions.
The Firsts were inspired by South African batsman Wesley Euley, whose arrival in July kickstarted Spa's season. He finished with an average of over 100 and was well supported by Ian Duggan and Geoff Ford with the bat and award-winning bowlers, Mike Gunston and Mike Rogers.
The Seconds relied on the all-round contributions of the whole team although Brian Gunston, Neil Williams and Antony Small deserve particular credit.
Droitwich's youth section had another solid season, with the U16s finishing runners-up and the U13s benefiting from the hard work of new coach, Karl Goddard, who also organised a highly successful cricket week for local youngsters.
Special mention should also go to Alan Breakwell, whose efforts completely rejuvenated the social side of the club during 2001.
