IT would be pointless dredging the Severn upstream of Diglis Weir.
As soon as a bucket of silt was removed, the area from which it was taken would be filled up with water.Thus the level of the river would remain the same, even if it was channelled down to 100 metres!
Peter Alcock's school experiment (You Say, October 15) was carried out, no doubt, using an empty gutter channel, not one already filled with water.
