THE Bromsgrove Rovers Supporters' Society is celebrating its first year in business having raised an impressive £7,000 for the club.
A significant part of that sum was included in the £40,000 bid generated by chairman-elect Tom Herbert and prominent townsfolk -- believed to be Dr Max White and club president Charlie Poole -- which has allowed Rovers to finally come out of administration.
Mayfields Insolvency Practitioners will return to court next Monday to complete its formal discharge as administrators.
That means the club will then be able to become debt free, with a new board of directors, including a member from the supporters' society.
The society's influence on Rovers should not be underestimated. Launched by the society's former chairman, Phil Baker, on October 20 last year, the 174-member society was set up with a formal constitution and registered as a friendly society.
With the help of Supporters Direct, a body set up by the Government to encourage the involvement of supporters with their respective clubs, the society pledged to give every penny to support Bromsgrove Rovers Football Club.
Des Best, acting chairman for the society after Baker took the position of secretary-elect at the club, beamed: "We have cleared debts owed to the Dr Martens League and the Football Association which threatened to prevent the club being able to compete in the Midland Alliance this season.
"Other sums of money have been made available to provide transport to away matches, to re-stock the physiotherapy department and completely refurbish the main offices which has allowed the club to set up a full time commercial structure."
Only last week society members carried out a complete overhaul of the floodlighting system, funding the cost of new light bulbs and even taking to the skies to carry out the work, assisted by a hydraulic platform supplied by Geoff Till Access Ltd.
Best said: "Looking to the future we ask the public to support our fundraising social events listed in the press and the home match programme, which is also edited and published by the supporters' society."
The society encourages townsfolk to attend an extraordinary general meeting on Thursday November 8 at the Victoria Club at 7.30pm to elect new officers.
These are vacancies created by members of the society who have resigned, like Baker, in order to join the main board of Rovers under Herbert's chairmanship.
Herbert expressed his appreciation of the work done by the society members on the match day programme and the ground during the close season and in recent weeks.
On the playing side, 30-year-old striker Les Palmer has joined Bloxwich after being unable to command a first team place ahead of the other quality forwards at the club.
Bromsgrove boss Steve Daniels is set for transfer talks with highly-rated Chasetown midfielder Shaun Derry on Thursday.
- Rovers have landed a home draw in the second round of the FA Vase against United Counties Premier Division side Ford Sports Daventry.
The tie will be played on Saturday November 10.
