DROITWICH tenpin bowling ace Andrew Jones is winning more trophies on his meteoric rise to the top.
The 12-year-old's latest awards came when he won the English Junior Open for under-18s at Strykers, in Tamworth, where he claimed the highest individual score.
Andrew, a pupil at Droitwich Spa High School, then went on to take the doubles prize with team mate Mike McDonnaugh. To cap all that he also set a lane record in the individual event with ten strikes in a row.
He finished with an astonishing score of 284 out of a possible 300!
These achievements in August, as well as his success in May's National Junior Singles in Nottingham, saw Andrew commended with a letter from the National Association of Bowling this month. It has now invited him to join the 25-man Jet squad for enhanced training sessions in the first six months of next year.
His dad, John, said: "He punched the air in delight when he came home from school and read the letter! It's a really big achievement for him."
The Spa youngster will travel to Nottingham one weekend a month for the special sessions, which are the stepping stone to challenging for a place in the junior England squad next September.
Andrew, who lives in Dowles Croft, plays for Worcester Wizards and is already a member of the Worcestershire under-14 and under-16 tenpin teams.
