SPORTY youngsters in Wychavon proved they are tops after the district clinched first place in the Worcestershire Gam-es 2001 following a last-minute victory.
In the final heat of the event, the boccia, Wychavon pipped Redditch to top spot.
Wychavon went on to take the glory and district council chairman Cllr Tony Hotham collected the replica broad sword.
This year's event started in May after being postponed because of the foot and mouth outbreak.
Wychavon was represented by youngsters from Droitwich Spa, Evesham, Pershore and the district's villages.
Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre, Droitwich Spa High School and the town's Westacre Middle School hosted the games which is the county's largest sporting event.
Worcestershire's six authorities provided teams which competed in a variety of sports including basketball, mixed tag rugby and tennis.
Wychavon District Council's sports development team worked closely with local schools and Sport England to prepare them for the games, which attracted 600 competitors and 1,500 spectators.
