ROWING: The young oarsmen and women of Stourport Boat Club went in force to the Junior Head of the River race at Evesham and returned with five wins.
Sixteen crews entered the event which was raced in near perfect conditions in four divisions on Sunday.
The course was raced over 2,000 metres upstream and against the clock.
Robert Hart-Davis and Mathew Brighton came in second, 38 seconds behind Evesham in J12 double sculls, finishing in 11 minutes 36 seconds.
Emma Perkins and Harriet Conway were two seconds behind them, finishing third.
In J13 doubles, Jessica Danby and Daniel Brighton were convincing winners, 1-34 ahead of the nearest rival in 10-05.
In men's J15 sculls, Rupert Conway continues to perform well by beating off stiff competition and winning the event with a time of 8-44, one of the fastest times recorded on the day.
Adam Carrier and Tom Jones won in the men's J15 doubles, recording 9-02, and succeeded again with R Conway and Ashley Price, coxed by Miles Banks, in the J15 quad sculls.
They recorded the fastest time of the whole event of 8-01.
In mixed J13 quad sculls, Rebecca Perkins, D Brighton, Jessica Danby and Hart-Davis, coxed by Tom Banks, won in 10-13, narrowly beating the host club Evesham.
And in J13 double sculls R Perkins raced again with H Conway but were beaten into second place by an Evesham double.
Alex Gavin was third in his first men's J14 single sculling headrace, as was D Brighton in J13 single sculls.
Gavin raced again in a mixed J15 quad scull with Sam Isaew, James Smith and Jamie Morris - in her first competitive race - finishing second in a respectable 9-41.
Kathryn Bradley, Olivia Gavin, Laura Gauntlett and Hazel Rogers raced in women's J15 quad sculls, finishing fourth in 10-12.
And then they raced again in a coxed four, substituting Morris for Rogers, timing 12-04.
The youngest crew of the day, E Perkins, Josh Barrington, M Brighton and Nicola Price, put in a commendable performance in J11 quad sculls, recording an impressive 11-06.
Finally, T Banks managed 10-25 in J16 sculls, finishing third to some fine opponents.
It proved a successful day for the junior athletes but less so for the seniors.
Their planned trip to the Head of the River Race at Monmouth was cancelled at the last minute due to flooding and dangerous river conditions.
