I HAVE sent the following open letter to Rev Charles Raven.
Thank you for educating us in the knowledge of the Bible and its teaching on the subject of homosexuality.
I do however need some advice on other matters based on the Holiness Laws on which you appear to base your interpretation. My questions are as follows:
1 I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as it suggests in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what would you consider to be a fair price?
2 Leviticus 25:44 states that I may buy slaves from the nations around us. A friend suggests that Scotland, having its own parliament, would be a suitable place from which to purchase, but what would your feeling be about Wales, which is still part of the legal structure of England?
3 I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath, when Exodus 35:2 clearly states that he should be put to death. Am I morally obliged to kill him myself?
I know you have studied these things extensively so I am confident you can help.
I have been helped in writing this letter by the writings of Richard Holloway, recent Bishop of Edinburgh.
