A MONEY-spinning FA Cup run could trigger the resurgence of Worcester City and pave the way for its future success says the club's chairman.
Dr Michael Sorensen believes City's crucial fourth qualifying FA Cup tie at Belper Town tomorrow is vital for the club.
The tie, worth £20,000 to the winners, would also boost the club's finances, which sees them currently losing £40-£50,000 a year.
Dr Sorensen is hoping the magic of the FA Cup will rub off on the Faithful City and help attract more spectators through the turnstiles at St George's Lane.
"There is a feel-good factor because people are interested in the FA Cup," he said.
"When we played Torquay a few years ago we could have sold more tickets than we actually had because they only brought 100 fans but we had more than 3,000.
"There is a vast amount of football interest in the Worcester areaand if we can keep going in the FA Cup and attract more people then they might start to come to the league matches.
"This is what happened to Kidderminster Harriers whose rise came on the back of a cup run and they've gone from strength to strength.
"If we can keep going it boosts the confidence of everyone involved with the club and generates interest in the city.
"We'll get more spectators coming to the matches and if you think what has happened to other clubs then suddenly its all flags and scarves in shop windows and I'm sure that would happen to Worcester."
Dr Sorensen revealed the players will pick up a healthy win bonus if they can shoot City through to the draw for the first round proper, taking place live on Grandstand tomorrow at 5.15pm.
"I'm sure there are subtle pressures on the Worcester players because it is such an important match, but they are on a very good bonus for taking us through," he said.
"If it helps them push through the pain barrier and swings a few matches by getting extra effort then all the better.
"The financial benefits for the club are tremendous and £20,000 for a club struggling to balance its books and losing £40-£50,000 a year is important," said Dr Sorensen
City's exploits at St Blazey in the last round, where they won 3-2, will be shown on BBC's Football Focus tomorrow lunchtime.
