West Premier League Div 1 (Ladies)
Colwall 3, Bournemouth 1
Colwall were hosts to top of the league Bournemouth and were missing three first team players.
However, they were able to call on the services of Coral Handley and Lucy Halligan, from the second team, as their match was cancelled for the second week running.
Colwall started strongly and were rewarded after 10 minutes with a goal from Jackie Styles finishing a move at the right post. Soon after Colwall had the chance to increase their lead when awarded a penalty stroke. Polly Bounds was unfortunate to see her powerful flick come back off the crossbar and post, having easily beaten the keeper.
Despite Colwall's dominance, Bournemouth remained dangerous and fought back to score from a short corner.
The second half saw Colwall in determined mood. Continual attacks brought numerous chances. Colwall were denied a goal by the umpire, but immediately struck again when Sue Williams picked up the clearance and crossed for Coral Handley to slot in.
Further pressure gave Colwall a short corner opportunity, which Emma Twigg deflected into the goal, to notch her first league goal for Colwall.
Bournemouth were thwarted in the last few minutes by some determined defending but the overall team performance was outstanding and confirmed their first win of the league campaign.
The next match is on November 3, away to Portishead Firebrands in Bristol.
