Malvern 2, Alcester 3
With the scores at two matches apiece, Malvern's fate was in the hands of their captain, Tim Cossali-Francis.
In a contest at No 1 against the vastly experienced Pete Dunnett, there was no obvious winner until the final game when the Alcester man produced a series of disguised shots which left his opponent helpless. With Alex Stojanovic and Nik Farrar losing 3-1, success was limited to a competent victory by Mark Pritchett and a resounding five setter by Hugh Webber, this year playing at No 3. At two games down Hugh looked dead and buried but in the third game he eliminated the errors which had littered the early play and moved serenely to an apparently comfortable win.
Tim Cossali-Francis lost to Pete Dunnett - 9-7, 1-9, 9-4, 3-9, 2-9
Alex Stojanovic lost to Marion Wyatt 1-9, 3-9, 9-5, 6-9
Hugh Webber beat Dave Cox 4-9, 1-9, 9-3, 9-4, 9-2
Nik Farrar lost to Gary Harman 7-9, 4-9, 9-7, 5-9
Mark Pritchett beat Bev Bosworth 4-9, 9-0, 9-2, 9-1
