KIDDERMINSTER Harriers striker Drewe Broughton hopes his two-goal performance against York City this week will be the start of a major upturn in his scoring fortunes.
The 23-year-old admits, however, that his frustrating failure to find the net this season before Tuesday's 4-1 demolition of The Minstermen was 'playing on my mind'.
But now he's broken his 'duck' the former Peterborough United front-runner is convinced he can start piling up the goals.
"I always said October was going to be my month after the injury I had pre-season. That set me back terribly but I've kept going.
"I have been getting into good positions and I've been missing a lot of chances, but that gave me the belief that sooner or later it was going to click.
"Not scoring had been playing on my mind. I'm a centre-forward and that's the pressure of the job. There's loads of people who want that number nine shirt and there are times when you are down and have a bad spell. But when you are scoring there's no better thing in the world."
Broughton also admits to being glad that a proposed £70,000 move to Oxford United fell through recently.
He said: "I never really wanted to go. I felt I'd made this my home now. I wanted to crack on and score goals here this season. I'd set a target of 20-25 for myself.
"But I'm glad things turned out as they did as I wanted to prove a point to everyone here, as you always do as a striker, that you can get goals.
"I've been doing all the hard work in holding the ball up and winning the headers, but nothing had been clicking in the box, but then all of a sudden on Tuesday I could have had three or four,"
