SOME months ago, it was rumoured that one of the largest supermarket chain stores (Tesco, surprise, surprise) had in fact purchased the land at Grove Farm, St John's.
Why would Tesco have purchased Grove Farm? It could be that they might offer the land on a long-term lease, or possibly give the land to Worcester County Council, but why on earth should Tesco do that?
Firstly, the Grove Farm site could be used for the long-awaited Westside park-and-ride scheme (this does not mean I would support a park-and-ride site on the Westside).
Secondly, the firm could build the new High School that has been talked about (this does not mean I would support the school being moved).
Finally, when you have the park-and-ride scheme running in the mornings the coaches are all but empty coming from the city to the park-and-ride car park site.
So why not use the spare capacity on those coaches to provide free transport for the children to their brand new school?
When the school day finishes at 3.30pm, the park-and-ride coaches making the return trip to the city will undoubtedly be almost empty.
These coaches could therefore provide the transport for the children back to their homes.
It all fits together.
Alternatively, I could be reading too much into it.
