AN alleged shoplifter making a frantic getaway on a pushbike ploughed into a woman as she walked along a Worcester street.
Passers-by looked on in shock as the man, believed to have stolen items from the city's Woolworths store, hit the pedestrian outside Pratley's china shop in The Shambles at 9.45am on Saturday.
She was taken to Worcester's Ronkswood Hospital but later allowed home.
A Pratley's shop assistant said a group of people dashed into the shop shouting for someone to call an ambulance.
"Some people managed to hold on to the man until the police came and took him away," he said.
Woolworths assistant manager Mark Stevenson confirmed that there had been a shoplifting incident in the High Street store.
"The lady doesn't appear to have been badly injured and doesn't wish to pursue any complaint," said Worcester police spokeswoman Vicki Davies. "And a man has been arrested."
