A WOMAN who is trying to trace her family is hoping Evening News readers can help reunite them.
Carmel Devereux has been hunting for her mother and half-sister, who both have roots in Worcester, for the past 40 years but has had little luck.
Carmel was born in Worcester on August 26, 1947.
She was christened at St Joseph's Catholic Church, and the family lived at 3 Talbot Street.
Her mother kept Carmel and her twin brother John Joseph with her for a year, but then realised she could not cope with both of them and put them up for adoption in her native Ireland.
The twins settled with a foster family in 1958.
Carmel, who now lives in West London, has recently found out her mother had another child, Patricia, in Worcester on March 22, 1945.
County Wexford
Patricia was sent back to her mother's parents' home in County Wexford, Ireland, where it is thought she may have been brought up as their daughter.
Carmel is now keen to discover news of her mum and half-sister.
"I am so desperate to make contact with my half-sister as she may know of our mother's history," said Carmel.
"I feel I have made so much progress already, and someone must know something else.
"I would like any information, however trivial it may seem, as it is of the utmost importance and will be treated with total confidentiality."
Anyone with information about either Carmel's mother or half-sister should contact the Evening News on 01905 748200, extension 284.
