THESE are the scenes of carnage that greeted the rescue services this weekend at Worcester's busy Shrub Hill Station.

But the mangled vehicles and bodies on stretchers weren't for real - the fire brigade, police and ambulance services were taking part in an exercise to test the county's response to a major accident.

Although the site was not open to the public for safety reasons, posters were put up around the station warning people of Sunday's crash.

The exercise, which took place between 9am and 1pm, was organised by Worcestershire County Council emergency planning manager John Asquith, who said the operation was not related to the terrorist attacks in America.
