POLICE across Herefordshire are providing ''No Trick or Treat'' signs for elderly people who find the tradition threatening.
The scheme, which is running for its sixth year, is designed to let youngsters know the occupants of houses displaying the poster do not want to be disturbed.
The message is also being driven home at school, with teachers telling youngsters that some people find the tradition frightening and annoying.
The police are not trying to stop young people having fun while trick or treating, said PC John Westlake, beat manager at South Wye police station.
"Some people do find these activities worrying and all we ask is trick or treaters carry on the tradition in a responsible way and respect the wishes of those who do not want to join in.
