DUNCAN Roke has revealed concussion was the spark behind his knock-out tries this season.
Worcester's new try-scoring king has proved a real hit among the supporters with his surging runs from midfield.
However, the former Henley man believes it was the sheer frustration at missing three games because of a concussion injury which has driven him on this season.
Roke was knocked unconscious just minutes into his first appearance for Worcester in the league opener with Manchester on September 1. He then had to miss two matches because of regulations concerning concussion injuries, much to his frustration.
"It has been very frustrating," he said. "I got injured against Manchester through no fault of my own and you have to work very hard to get back in. You have to get fit, play in Warriors matches, impress in training and substitute appearances. You don't just get straight back into the team."
His memories of the unfortunate Manchester experience are, quite understandably, very hazy.
However, he still remembers the moments leading up to the dreadful head-high tackle and, when he woke up! "I was on for three minutes and the next thing I knew I was in the car park! I was frustrated and angry that it was my first game for Worcester, I was really keen to make an impression, and I was just cleaned out by a high shot.
"Then you realise you are going to be out for three weeks because of the nature of the injury. That was the really frustrating part."
After making his comeback with a fine substitute appearance at London Welsh, followed up with good displays at Lydney, he then took Wakfield by storm with two superb tries on Saturday.
"My tries were nice," he said. "But the main thing was that it was a very professional performance from everyone."
