Redditch is one of the five towns listed by the Ministry of Local Government and Planning as reception towns for the over-spill of industry and population from Birmingham on a short term programme.
Other towns are Droitwich, Lichfield, Cannock and Tamworth. This fact is mentioned in the second part of the city's development plan to be presented to the council by the public work committee shortly.
One of the conclusions reached by the committee is that within the next 20 years Birmingham's industrial acreage will increase by nearly a tenth of its present size and eventually by nearly a quarter.
