JIM Tavare brings his special brand of humour and his double bass, affectionately known as Bassie, to Worcester for the first time this week, writes Melina Cannon.
The Macclesfield-born comedian first took up the double bass at school because it meant his parents would meet him at the school gate and give him a lift home.
He later formed Rigo Mortis, a local psychobilly band, but left to join RADA, where he trained alongside Ralph Fiennes.
Jim finally decided on a career in comedy but had a distinctly different style from others on the circuit, who were at the time very politically-orientated.
He had a small guitar with which he would get up and sing songs - but it wasn't until he recruited the double bass into his act that his career took an upward turn.
Jim has since made many television appearances, including The Des O'Connor Show, with Clive Anderson and his own series on Channel 5.
He most recently appeared in The Sketch Show and has introduced his band of outrageous characters to audiences all over the world.
His show takes place at Worcester's Swan Theatre on Sunday from 8pm.
Tickets cost £10 or £8 (concessions) from the box office on 01905 27322.
