Dear Editor - This year is the 80th Anniversary of The Royal British Legion and once again, as Remembrance Sunday approaches, I am writing to your newspaper to seek the support of the local community for this year's Poppy Appeal.
Since 1921 the Poppy Appeal has helped to fund the Legion's work to deliver a caring service for the benefit of ex-Service men and women.
In today's troubled times more people are approaching the Legion for help than ever before and the need for public support is as great as ever.
Last year, the first Poppy Appeal of the new Millennium, raised £20,100,758.00 thereby just exceeding the target of £20 million thanks to the continuing generosity of the general public.
I am sure you will appreciate that the money received from this appeal is vital if the Royal British Legion is to meet its growing needs.
Please give generously, as I know, your support is greatly appreciated.
Councillor Mike Gill,
Bromsgrove District
Council chairman.
