DROITWICH started positively, taking the game to their Midland Combination Division One opponents.
Sports enjoyed more of the territorial play without making a decent chance. The first real chance fell to Droitwich when Simon Peters should have capitalised on a defensive mix-up in the Dudley defence, but Peters mis-kicked on the edge of the area and the ball went straight into the keepers hands.
Five minutes before, Peters did brilliantly, turning his marker and putting Matt Jenkins through with an excellent ball, but Jenkins shot agonisingly wide. Dudley were limited to long range shots which goalkeeper Watson coped with easily.
In the second half Dudley took the game to Droitwich but they only had two half-chances. One was a free kick which narrowly cleared Watson's bar, the second was a goalmouth scramble hastily cleared by Danny Williams.
The clearance fell to Ingram who ran from well inside his own half, turned inside the full back on the edge of the area, but saw his shot go straight into the keeper's arms.
The game opened up with both sides searching for the winner. With five minutes to go Williams played a superb ball to sub Danny Ryan who shot straight at the keeper.
Dudley could have won it in the last minute with another free header which the centre forward put straight into the grateful arms of Watson.
The referee blew for full time meaning extra time having to be played. Both sides began cautiously, with only Adrian Crowther's 25 yard shot which cleared the bar, of any note.
The second half of extra time saw both sides attacking, with Droitwich having two penalty decisions turned down, much to the annoyance of the Droitwich bench.
Melvin Watson then pulled off the save of the match to deny the Dudley forward a certain goal, Watson diving low to push the goalbound effort around the post.
Droitwich should have then scored twice through Jenkins after good work from Ryan.
With time running out Crowther won the ball in midfield, found Ryan with a great ball, who crossed from the left.
The ball evaded Jenkins but Peters arrived late and planted a header in off the post to put Droitwich Sports through.
This was a fine result for Sports, beating a team two divisions above on their own soil.
