MOORLANDS Farms Junior Holiday Open starts this week's results and it was 14-year-old Grant Nock (Wednesbury) who topped this Tuesday event by pole fishing casters at Bank pool peg 8 for 66-8-0. Second place went to Lee McGrath (Stourport) with 19-8-0, third Lee Sanders (Redditch) 15-6-0.
Northfield Starlets Veterans held their Tuesday event on Moorlands Farms Silverfish pool with Derek Buckle (Bewdley) showing the way by pole fishing chopped worms with casters at peg 10 for a mixed 21-7-0 catch. Second John Grazier (Stoke Prior) 14-8-0, third Ken Giles (Alvechurch) 14-3-0.
On Wednesday the Astwood Fisheries Open was held on the Buddleia pool, with Rob Francis (DAC Mosella) taking tench with a variety of other mixed fish with pole fished chopped works at peg 64 for 25-11-8. Second Brian Goodchild (Austin SS) 23-10-0, third Wayne Clark (Triplex) 12-14-8.
At Moorlands Farm the Meadow Pool Open was won by Stourbridge top rod Andy Newton (DC Lifestyle) with an 88-11-0 catch taken with fished chopped worm an casters from peg 13. Colin Pack (Bilston) followed with 55-10-0, third Mick Henshall (Fosters MG) 52-1-0.
The Moorlands Farm Thursday Special Open was won by Aaron Munslow (DC Lifestyle) with a pole and corn catch of 76-8-0 from Meadow pool peg 58. Second Bob Jones (Moorlands) 66-14-0, third Mick Henshall (Fosters MG) 63-3-0.
The Starlets Veterans fished at Wassell Groves match pool with John Grazier (Stoke Prior) moving up a gear to first place.
But he only needed 11-6-0 which included a nine pound carp take with pole and white maggots from peg 43. Harold Willey (Kidderminster) was a close second with 10-8-0, third Phil Hill (Redditch) 9-7-0.
On Saturday the Ovation Leisure open at Lower Broadheath's Sycamore pool was hit by a cold influx of rainwater and catches were down as a result. Chris Newton (Redditch) did well, alternating pole and corn with waggler and casters at peg five to take a top catch 48-2-0 or carp. Runner-up Gerry Trueman (Unity AC) had a more modest catch of 20-5-0, third Terry Gough (100AC) 18-2-0.
Lucas College AC transferred its Wines and Spirits contest from a swollen River Severn to the Staffs-Worcs canal between Kidderminster and Stourport. It was Northfield's Jim Pedley that drew the hot peg 100 yards from bridge nine where he pole fished bronze maggots towards the overhanging tree for six chub together with a thumping 2-4-0 perch for a 7-14-0 total. Club secretary Stan Jones had five chub for 6-9-0, third John Miller 4-2-0.
Round Two of the Moorlands Farm winter league, with 17 teams of four, gave a close individual result headed by Andy Newton (Lifestyle VDE Blue) who pole fished casters and corn at bank pool peg nine for 76-3-0. Grant Albutt fishing under the (Highbridge) banner took second spot with 74-7-0, third Dave Hinton (Fosters Elite) 72-13-0. Top team were Highbridge with 62 points, Fosters Elite 57, Fosters Gold 54, overall Lifestyle VDE Blue lead the league with 30, Foster Elite are a close second with 29 and Highbridge 28.
At Woodlands View Mike Jones (Slapheads) was the winner from Arles pool peg seven with a pole, worm and caster catch of 84-5-0. Gary Plant (WMP Fosters) came a close second with 83-14-0, third Tony Holmes (Slapheads) 66-14-0. Sunday's Woodland View open was held on Deans pool with Mick Denton (Oxford Drennan) showing the way by pole fishing worms and casters at peg 23 for carp up to 12 pounds in his 94-15-0 catch. Second Clive Munslow (Preston Innovations) 84-7-0, third Dereck Hammond (Oxford Drennan) 83-10-0.
The Astwood Fishery Open was held on the Smokey Joe pool with Lee Harber (Reservoir Dogs) continuing his good run with a top catch 39-14-0 taken with pole, caster and corn from peg 39. Paul Savings (Sheldon Heath) followed with 20-13-8, third Chris Walters (Stevens Tackle) 11-10-8.
Wyre Forest Fishery Furnace Mill held its open on the Mucky Meadow pool where Dave Grace (Docklow) topped the list with pole fished chopped worm at peg 32 for 37-0-0. Steve Mayer (Bronx) was a close second with 36-0-0, third Mick Round (Old Dial AC) 31-4-0.
There were six ton-up catches recorded at the Moorlands Farm Open, topped by the best weight reported to me this week, 164-15-0 taken by Less Thompson (Shakespeare) with pole fished casters from Meadow pool peg 19. His team mate Neil McKinnon was second with 146-6-0, third Chris Hill (Fosters MG) 105-9-0.
The Geers Groundbait Open was fished on the Redditch-fed stretch of the Stratford canal at Earlswood with (Shimano Portway) team members filling the top three placed, topped by Andy Wilson who was staked at peg 106, just above the Bluebell pub where he pole fished bloodworm and joker for a mixed 4-13-0 catch. Second Steve Savage 4-8-6, Jeff Warmington 4-7-13.
Clearplas AC fished its contest at Sion pool where Rubery angler Mick Smith led the field by pole fishing catmeat over corn for 22-15-0.
Second Colin Haynes 16-3-0, third Dave Skelton 9-4-0.
