BROMSGROVE'S ancient Court Leet has chosen a new bailiff for the next 12 months.
Retired building estimator David Turner was sworn in at the autumn court in Cookes Room, at Bromsgrove School.
Mr Turner, of Finstall Road, said: "I am looking forward to a very fulfilling year."
He has been a member of the court for ten years, taking the roles of juryman and street marketmaster before becoming reeve last year.
John Weston is replacing him as reeve.
The Court Leet established more than 800-years-ago is traditionally a group of men selected to examine the quality of bread, ale and leather for townspeople.
Outgoing bailiff Adrian Powell, a chartered surveyor and estate agent, said he had "absolutely enjoyed the post."
The partner of the St John Street family firm, which was established by his late father, A Victor Powell in 1946, fondly remembers his year as bailiff.
He told the Advertiser/Messenger he had particularly enjoyed the Fair Day procession, which almost did not go ahead because of problems with marshalling.
The bailiff's dinner, where Confederation of British Industry director general Digby Jones was guest speaker, held on Friday October 12, was also a highlight of Mr Powell's year.
He said: "The evening attracted a considerable amount of kudos."
During his term, money was raised for Chadsgrove School, in Meadow Road, Catshill and the Meningitis Research Fund.
Donning his bailiff's robes, last Thursday, October 25, Mr Turner said he is yet to nominate the town charities to benefit from fundraising during his term.
