THE speaker at the October meeting was Bob Hares who is a lecturer at Pershore College.
His subject was 'Autumn Colour and the Shaded Garden' which he amply illustrated with plant material in all its autumn glory.
His helpful suggestions for even the densest shade were pachysandra, periwinkles and cyclamen hederifolium for ground cover and shrubs such as skimmias, hollies and the highly scented winter box for positions with little light.
His list of plants for autumn colour was extensive and interesting, and included sorbus varieties, amalanchier, cornus for coloured bark and unusual cotoneasters such as inodora with beautiful arching stems.
The November meeting on Thursday 15, at the Swan will feature local florist Sylvia Palmer making a Christmas flower display. Everyone welcome. Guests £1.50. Call the secretary on 01789 765105 for details.
