A DRIVER was hurt when his van was in collision with a fire engine answering what turned out to be a hoax call.
It appears the 999 call was made by a child on a mobile phone who said there was a cooker fire at a house in Winyates.
Details of the call have been passed to police, who have launched an investigation with the aid of British Telecom.
Two fire engines from Redditch were called out at about 1.30pm on Friday.
One was turning right at the junction of Claybrook Drive and Winward Road with its emergency lights on when it was in collision with a Ford Transit.
The van driver was freed and taken to the Alexandra Hospital and treated for a broken nose and bruises. He was later discharged.
No firefighters were hurt in the crash but the engine was damaged."
