Bretforton 6, Ilmington 1
A MIXTURE of Bretforton teams combined to play Sunday's friendly.
Ilmington were the first to settle into attacking mode and it wasn't long before they managed to sneak behind the home team's defence and push it past the goalkeeper.
With that wake-up call, the hosts sprung into action and started to pass the ball better.
The visitors soon found themselves on the back foot and it was Sarah Bragg who found the net after numerous attempts were off target.
Once the sound of the backboard was heard the home team were hungry for more. Sue Harper was the next to slip the ball into the narrowest of gaps between a post and the keeper's pads.
The team was now creating some wonderful passing sequences with midfielders Lorna Beddis and Blanche Surman feeding balls to the forwards who were managing to keep their end of the bargain by getting the ball into the back of the net.
Lisa Workman was next in line to score followed by another two from Bragg to complete her hat-trick. Workman's delicate touch over the line completed the scoring.
Bretforton Ladies 2, Warwick 2
THE villagers fielded a combination of their first and second squads for this mid season friendly fixture.
Bretforton took control as good supportive play between Sandra Boswell and Bobbie Handley initiated attacks from both sides of the pitch.
The home side were the first to be awarded a short corner which was confidently taken by Julie Hall but Bret were unable to take advantage.
It was the visitors, however, who were first to take the lead with a deflected goal.
Fired up, the home side worked well down the right, passing short accurate balls between Sue Palmer, Hall and Tracey Hodgkins. It was the latter who sent the ball into the circle to give Lisa Workman the opportunity to take on the keeper successfully and equalise.
Both teams passed the ball well after the restart creating attacks at either end. It was an attack from the right, instigated by Deb Slatter, that saw Bretforton take the lead. A pass to Andrea Cole saw the forward superbly use the reverse of the stick to make it 2-1.
Warwick now stepped up the pressure and a quick break took Bretforton by surprise and the lead was lost. The dejected hosts were unable to reply in the time remaining and they had to settle for a draw.
The player of the match was held jointly between Handley and Hannah Jordan.
This weekend the first team visit East Glos while the seconds are at home to Cheltenham III.
