AN angry granny has branded two Worcester play areas "disgusting" after finding dog mess and sick on a swing and slide.
The woman, who does not want to be named, was taking her granddaughter to play on a swing in a play area at Norton Road, when she was confronted with vomit, litter and smashed eggs.
Soon afterwards she took the two-year-old to a play area in Batsford Road, only to discover dog excrement on the top of one of the slides.
The 62-year-old blamed bored youngsters when she aired her views at a St Peter's Parish Council's meeting.
"Someone was sick over one of the swings and it was still there a fortnight afterwards, all dried up," she said.
"I just noticed the dog muck on the top of the slide at Batsford Road before my granddaughter went down it.
"Somebody must have thrown it up there.
"I can't let my granddaughter out of the pushchair without her walking in dog muck. It's disgusting."
The woman said the estate was a nice place, but warned it was being ruined by a minority.
Dog mess was constantly on a collapsed wooden fence in Batsford Road, she said, because vandals were always pulling it down.
Councillor Robert Rowden said parish officer Wendy Richards spent six hours a week walking round the estate.
"She reports back everything from graffiti, vandalism and dog muck," he said.
After the meeting, the woman, from St Peter's, said youngsters who threw dog mess might not realise it could blind a child.
"People should set an example," she said.
"When the new community centre is built in St Peter's and the hard play area constructed, it might make a difference to bored youngsters.
"I think the council is fighting a losing battle because children need to be educated."
Ian Yates, parks and cemeteries manager at Worcester City Council, said the city boasted 60 children's playgrounds.
"There is one maintenance visit a week to each playground to check on issues such as litter, health and safety," he said.
"We have got a sign at each playground identifying who runs it.
"If you see something on a playground that concerns you give us a call straight away and we'll be glad to come out."
