Evesham II 0, Old Silhillians III 2
FOLLOWING a mixed start to the season, Evesham took on an experienced side in their Birmingham-based opponents.
They started poorly and were penalised early on for shoddy defending as the visitors took a seventh minute lead.
Slow to respond and unable to gain any firm grip of the game the home side battled in vain, with Harris and Hardy the only bright sparks in a dull first half performance.
The second period saw an improvement in the Evesham offering, with Jobson, Miller and the young starlet Nick Baumber all turning in solid performances.
Old Sills soaked up the pressure and broke away to finish the game off with a second goal.
Evesham III 3, Bromsgrove III 0
AFTER last season's relegation into West Midlands Division One, Evesham had hoped for a better start to this year's campaign than their three early league defeats.
A home defeat to Old Silhillians and successive away losses at Telford and Kidderminster had seen Evesham concede five goals and fail to score despite positive performances.
The young side looked towards a home match against Worcestershire rivals, Bromsgrove, as an opportunity to build on the experience gained in the opening league exchanges and provide a platform for the rest of the season.
Evesham began the match with the assured short passing game that they had so desperately been seeking throughout the season.
With ten minutes remaining of the first half and no goals to show for their superiority, Evesham won their second short corner of the game and Allan found the bottom corner.
After a succession of short corners, Evesham doubled their lead when Payne fired through a crowd of players.
The second goal dampened visiting spirits and it was inevitable when Payne scored a third with a stunning strike.
Evesham travel to Coseley on Saturday to take on Finchfield for a 2.30pm pushback.
