I FULLY support the district council's attempts to rid our towns of fly posting.
Apart from being illegal and unsightly, many of these posters and signs are posted in hazardous positions.
Favourite sites are traffic islands and at road junctions. The A4-sized posters sited at many of these are a very dangerous distraction.
Many posters are left in their positions until they rot away or the council removes them.
A good example at present are the signs around the traffic island near Catchems End at Bewdley advertising a bonfire which was held on October 5!
Many new housing developments also fly-post direction signs. I feel that these too should not be allowed, unless of course they are on private property.
With regards to signs advertising charity events and shows, where do you draw the line? The answer is not to allow any fly posting.
The Bewdley Carnival Association displays three large signs each year - one at Beales Corner which is displayed with the permission of the district council and two others along the bypass on private land.
The answer for anyone who wants to display signs is to seek permission from landowners alongside roads around our towns. But please, not too near road junctions.
