On October 3 Marion Canning, talked about her duties as a "Lady Toastmaster".
She was dressed in her formal outfit, and told how she received training to become one of the few lady toastmasters attending corporate events, dinners and wedding.
She said the main requirements are clear speech and confidence.
Secretary Jeff Higgott gave a talk at the October 17 meeting, on the subject of India, covering events from Victorian times to the granting of independence in 1947 and the formation of Pakistan and Bangladesh.
He described some of his wartime experiences with the Royal Engineers, including crossing the River Brahmaputra in Assam, railway construction works and a trek in the mountains from the Vale of Kashmir.
