EVESHAM Rowing Club recorded a fine Worcestershire Ladies Squash League win over the team that finished runners-up last term.
The home side lost the top two matches to visitors Horny Old, but recorded a trio of wins further down the order thanks to Sarah Bent, Karen Ferris and Frances Heneghan.
While the former was recording another comfortable win, her two club colleagues showed great determination to see off doughty opponents.
Ferris overcame early nerves to produce some sound play, including some strong lengths to the back court.
Heneghan, meanwhile, came through a tiring match to land a 3-1 win to ensure home success after Mary Boyle was whitewashed by her No 2 opponent.
Lorna Robinson played a brilliant match when, after a slow start, she started to put pressure on her opponent with some hard hitting drives.
Robinson went on to lose a thrilling contest 3-2 after the pair had been tied 7-7 in the final set when the match could have gone either way.
Results: Robinson lost 3-2 (3-9, 6-9, 9-6, 9-7, 7-9); Boyle lost 3-0 (2-9, 3-9, 5-9); Heneghan won 3-1 (9-7, 8-10, 9-3, 9-1); Ferris won 3-1 (9-4, 9-4, 6-9, 9-7); Bent won 3-0 (9-0, 9-1, 9-3).
