HANLEY Swan man John Ferris rang the Malvern Gazette in response to Grace Loach's reminiscences (Friday, October 26) about the Standard Motor Co in the Morgan factory during the Second World War.
Mr Ferris himself worked at the same place, but for a different concern, Flight Refuelling, which was run by Sir Alan Cobham.
It had moved up to Malvern after being bombed out of its previous location in Sussex.
"I was just a lad of 19 when I went there and asked to see the manager.," said Mr Ferris.
"He asked what I did and, when I said I was a dental technician, he said 'You're just the type we're looking for. You can start on Monday'. But I had to work two weeks' notice."
At Flight Refuelling, Mr Ferris worked on experimental aircraft components.
Also in the same building as Standard and Flight Refuelling, Morgan was producing braking components for barrage balloon cables.
