THE outskirts of Malvern will soon be blooming when green-fingered volunteers plant new woodland.
The new 11-acre stretch has been funded by the Forestry Commission Woodland Grant Scheme and is the idea of the Malvern Hills Conservators.
It is hoped the local community will get involved in all stages of the project.
"The idea of woodland is two-fold in that it will provide a great opportunity and resource for local people to get involved with creation and management of a new woodland," said David Whitehome, conservation officer for the conservators.
"Here the local community has the unique opportunity to be involved with the woodland right from planting."
A management group has been set up with representatives from groups such as Worcestershire County Council, Worcestershire Health Authority, Malvern Hills Conservators and Elgar Residents' Association.
The woodland is located on the east side of Townsend Way, opposite the Roman Way development, and will be planted with native trees.
The first planting day will take place on land opposite Safeway on Saturday, November 10.
Volunteers should don stout boots, wet weather clothing and turn up anytime between 10am and 4pm.
