WORCESTER Wolves were frozen out by Hull Icebergs as they fell to a 94-87 defeat in their final National Trophy match.
The first quarter proved an even contest with both teams scoring well. Hulls' Seamarks was on target from long range and Nick Vinsonneau and Ben Livingston were making promising inroads for Wolves to leave them trailing just 21-25.
But in the second quarter Hull looked much the brighter side and Brignell was proving difficult for Wolves to control as they battled to stay in touch.
The Worcester side were not playing well at this stage of the game and were in desperate need of some inspiration.
Although Rick Solvason and Livingston were having some success offensively and keeping the points score ticking over, Wolves were looking frail at the defensive end of the court and their vulnerability was reflected in the 51-39 score at half time.
During the interval coach Stuart France had some harsh words with the team and the revitalised Wolves reduced the deficit to only five points after three minutes of the second half.
Shooting
Solvason, Livingston and Colin Chiverton combined well and the Frenchman Vinsonneau also looked sharp in the offensive play with sound jump shooting from the edge of the zone.
Going into the final quarter Hull led 88-84 and the home crowd sensed a comeback.
However the final quarter was disappointing for Worcester with several more defensive errors and despite some excellent shooting from Solvason the Icebergs comfortably held onto their lead.
The result confirmed Worcester third position in their pool and it leaves them going into their opening league game against Mansfield on the back of four defeats.
But despite the losses the club was upbeat about their ability to turn things around.
Game coach Stuart France admitted that some quality was missing but was reassuring in his belief that key errors would be corrected on the training court this week.
Responsibilities
Player coach Rick Solvason said: "We will be looking at individual responsibilities this week. The Trophy competition has given us an excellent opportunity to prepare for the exciting challenge in Division One."
Wolves travel to Mansfield on Saturday and Westminster the following week with Hull returning as guests for the first home league game of Division One.
Scorers: Solvason 36, Vinsonneau 16, Livingston 13, Chiverton 14, Hocking 2, Fotos 2, Gordon 2, France, Brennan.
