STOURPORT booked their place in the fourth round of the Junior Cup with an 11-6 victory over Old Griffinians at Walshes Meadow.
The home side, however, had to come from behind as Old Griffs took a 10th minute lead with a penalty. Richard Dorrell levelled the scores soon after with his own three-pointer but then the visitors stunned their hosts with another penalty to lead 6-3 at half time.
After a half-time rant from coach Ron Hobbs, Stourport came out for the second period with renewed resolve and scrum half Chris Way crashed over from five yards. The conversion was missed but Dorrell hit another penalty late on to seal the win.
"We weren't brilliant," admitted Hobbs. "But bearing in mind the amount of injuries we're carrying at the moment I'm contented. The lads won this pure and simply because they wanted it more. Cup games are one off affairs and you have to perform well on the day to get through.
"I still believe that on our day we're capable of beating anyone, and I don't care who we get in the next round as long as we're at home. The next two games are at the teams setting the pace in the league (Southam and Earlsdon) so this win will be a big confidence boost for us."
