I FEEL that I must disagree with Joan Edward's letter in Wednesday's paper (You Say, October 24) with regard to the supermarket question.
First, the old cattle market is not a suitable site for a supermarket, Asda or otherwise. Any driver knows of the congestion in the area without introducing supermarket lorries and customers cars.
As an aside, assuming the Tallow Hill development goes ahead, the city will need plenty of car park space to replace that lost in the scheme. In actual fact, as the bus depot will be lost, maybe the cattle market site could be earmarked for that purpose.
Second, I believe that another supermarket could be of use in St John's, the Co-op not offering a full selection of goods and having too small a car park. However, the Sainsbury's plans are ridiculous.
Lorries and cars would flood into St John's. We should bear in mind the council's previous efforts to reduce the levels of traffic.
