HOW many more people have to injure themselves or worse before the Government puts a stop to fireworks being sold over the counter to the general public?
With so many accidents happening each year, it is about time the laws governing sales of fireworks were reviewed.
Today's fireworks are so much more powerful than they were years ago and are lethal in the wrong hands.
It would prevent a lot of these accidents if it was law that the only people allowed to buy/handle fireworks should be suitably qualified and registered individuals who have been trained by a recognised organisation.
Any member of the public would then have to go to a professionally-organised display, where fireworks would be let off in a controlled, safe environment.
Personally, with the cost of fireworks nowadays, I would rather pay £3.14 to gain admission to an organised display where I can see thousands of pounds worth of fireworks, than fork out about £40 to see about 10 fireworks. And it's safer for me, too.
