TIRELESS work for a carers' association and disability groups across Worcestershire has earned a churchwarden a top accolade.
Howerd Brooksbank, who lives in Crowle, was named Carer of the Month by Birmingham-based Wesleyan Assurance Society.
The former BBC electrical engineer was given his award by the society's managing director Jim Macdonald.
He was nominated by fellow churchwarden Jose Johnes and received a framed certificate and £200 in gift vouchers.
Mr Brooksbank has looked after his wife Jenny, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, for many years.
He also cares for two disabled, but very independent, neighbours.
"Without this support, Jenny would not be able to remain in her own home," Ms Johnes said.
"Howerd is her lifeline. Society chooses not to understand the work of committed people like him."
She said he gave disabled people a sense of worth.
"Through enabling them to engage with life, they save the state a huge amount of money," she added.
Mr Macdonald, who said the award scheme would run until next April, said Mr Brooksbank fully deserved the accolade.
"Howerd sets a fine example," he added.
