A change of scenery brought Richard King one of his best ever results at the Benson and Hedges Snooker Championship last night.

The Bewdley professional had got used to making the short journey to the Willie Thorne Snooker Club in Malvern for the event.

However, after four years the venue has changed to the Towers Snooker Club in Mansfield. And for the first time since entering the event back in 1991 King scored a 5-0 victory.

His victim was Dutchman Karan Chand and King later said: "It's a bit easier playing here and I felt a lot more relaxed.

"I haven't had the best of starts to the season but just recently I've been playing a little bit better. I wasn't as edgy tonight," said the 27-year-old, who will next face Paul Wykes.

Joining him in round three is Droitwich's Ian Hurdman who took the longer route to victory against Romford's Del Smith.

Hurdman, 28, found himself 4-2 down but helped by breaks of 50 and 63 drew level at 4-4 and then won a 55-minute final frame to book a clash with Mark Selby.
