ELMBRIDGE Fishery near Droitwich was the setting for Northfield's Starlets Veterans Tuesday contest. It was Phil Hill from (Redditch) who topped the list from Heron pool peg two by pole fishing red maggots against the island for a 33-12-0 catch.
Second place went to Ken Giles (Alvechurch) with 24-11-0, third Mike Millinchip (Kidderminster) 24-10-0.
At Woodlands View the Tuesday Affordable Open was held on Arles and Deans pools with Bill Drew (Bewdley) heading a close result with just three pounds separating the top six. Bill was pegged on Dean six, Bill was pegged on Dean 11 where he pole- fished worms for 46-10-0. Runner up was Dave Stockton (Haines Tackle) with 45-10-0 from Arles four, third Richard Edwards (Fishermans Friend) 45-7-0.
Another close result was recorded at Wednesdays Moorlands Farm Meadow Pool Open with Paul Rowberry (Severn Trent) taking the verdict with a pole and corn catch of 57-3-0 from peg 14. Second Steve Woodall (Shrewsbury) 53-15-0, third John Cockayne (Fosters Tipton) 55-9-0.
Moorlands Farms Thursday Special Open was won by Clive Munslow (Preston Inovations) with a pole, corn and caster catch of 84-13-0 from Meadow pool peg 50. Second Brian Cauwley (Moorlands) 57-12-0, third Brian Hill (Warley) 56-10-0.
Friday's Costcutter open was also fished on the Meadow Pool with Adam Toal (Lifestyle) in fine form, fishing corn and casters at peg 30 for a 90-8-0 catch. Pete Gould (Lucas) was second with 73-13-0, third Steve Woodall (Shrewsbury) 72-2-0.
On Saturday the Moorlands Farm Open was held on the Bank and Meadow Pools and Neville Groves (Walsall) just missed a ton up catch with a winning 99-13-0 by pole fishing corn from Meadow peg 10. Kieron Rich (Tricast), after a long lean spell, took second place with 82-8-0 from Bank peg 4, third Gary Picken (Leehall) 76-9-0.
At Lower Broadheath the Ovation Leisure Open was held on the Sycamore Pool which saw Bob Brown (Loonies) take the honours by pole fishing chopped worms at peg six for a carp and barbel catch of 34-11-0. Graham Upton (Athol AC) followed with a close 34-6-0, third Bill Wellings (Unity AC) 32-9-0.
Round Two of the Woodlands View Winter League saw Dereck Hammond (Oxford Drennan) take the top individual honours in this 17 teams of six event by pole fishing casters at Deans pool peg five for 81-10-0. Second was Chris Hill (Inovation Six) 56-3-0, third Lee Pistachio (Jocks Six Pack) 55-11-0. Joint team winners were Oxford Drennan and Inovation Six with 29 points with Jock Six Pack on 27. Overall, Inovation Six lead the league with 55, Oxford Drennan 49, Woodlands Blue 46.
On Sunday, the Woodlands View Open was a big money earner for Doug Robinson (Oxford Angling Centre) who drew bonus peg eight on Deans pool worth an extra £100 to his winnings for his top catch 64-11-0 taken with pole worm and casters. Second Alan Jones (DGL) 64-5-0, third Chris Haines (Haines Tackle) 60-7-0.
The 100 AC were at Pershore on the river Avon for their fur and feather and pairs contest. It was club chairman Steve Marke who showed the way from halfway along Meadow One below the bridge, where he stick float fished bronze maggots for a mainly roach catch of 7-5-0. Yours truly Tony Brunn was second with 6-13-8, third Stuart Cutler 4-14-4. Steve Marke and Paul Butler won the pairs shield with a seven-point tally.
Kings Norton AS fished its ninth and final aggregate contest on club waters at Kinwarton on the River Alne near Alcester. It was Bromsgrove matchman John Miller who had an easy victory by pole fishing casters and bronze maggots at peg 8, taking 15 chub and a single roach for 14-8-0. John Swain had a modest second placed catch of 2-1-4, third John Conner 1-6-8.
The Geers Groundbait Open fished on the Redditch-fed stretch of the Stratford Canal at Earlswood was won by Nick Pearce (Massey Ferguson AC) with a pole, bloodworm and joker catch of 4-12-11 from peg 24 below the marina. Clubmate Alan Hancox was second with 3-4-8, third Peter Taylor (Studley Road) 3-3-0.
Astwood Fisheries Bluebell pool open saw joint winners with Doug Bennett (Hewell Road) and Craig Richards (DAC Mosella) both with 20-15-8. Doug pole fishing worms and Craig feeder fishing maggots from adjacent pegs six and seven. Chris Styler (Hewell Road) was third with 12-5-0.
Mal Watson (Shakespeare) headed the Moorlands Farm Meadow Pool Open with a pole and corn catch of 79-6-0 from peg 44. Ian Whitehous (Team Wesson) followed with 58-3-0, third Lee Richards (Foster MG) 57-1-0.
