HUNDREDS of people in Rubery were shocked and frightened when they were evacuated from a leisure complex after a suspect package was found on a bus.
The Saturday night revellers were evacuated from several places in Rubery Great Park, off Bristol Road South, after army bomb disposal experts were called in to carry out a controlled explosion on the package found on a Travel West Midlands bus within the complex.
The incident happened just after 6.30pm shortly before a terrorist bomb rocked the centre of Birmingham.
Businesses, including Gala Bingo, Greens Health and Fitness, Hollywood Bowl and The Outside Inn pub were ordered to evacuate the buildings.
People in the UGC Cinema were not evacuated, but surrounding roads were closed off.
Some businesses re-opened just after 10.30pm others, including Frankie and Benny's restaurant, stayed closed for the night.
The bus was taken away by police and was yesterday still being examined.
A Travel West Midlands spokesman said: "It is clearly very unsettling and the situation has been heightened by the bombing which took place in Birmingham just a few hours later.
"The bus is still being examined by the police and I believe their enquiries are still continuing."
A police spokesman said investigations were on-going butwould not confirm the incident was linked to the bomb in Birmingham.
