The plug is to be pulled on flooding in Rubery's Callowbrook Lane next Monday when workmen move in.
This week Bromsgrove District Council has told of its delight that Worcestershire County Council is to bring about an end to the flooding which has blighted householders' lives for more than two years.
Workmen are due to move equipment into the area next Monday, November 12, to carry out remedial work which is expected to last 16 weeks and cost around £185,000.
In a statement issued this week, the district council said, for many months, it has tried to persuade the highways authorities to face up to the need to carry out substantial work in the area to prevent the problem which has caused great distress to residents.
Cllr David Hancox (Con, Uffdown and Waseley) said: "This is great news. Although we are not responsible for the flooding problem in any way, we have fully supported the need to have it put right and will continue to do our best to ensure the work is completed as soon as possible."
The authority commissioned and paid for an expert report which revealed the principle cause to be the culvert which carries water under Callowbrook Lane and the A38.
The council is now to consider a request from the county council to help fund the project.
Cllr Hancox added: "We have no legal liability to do this but we are willing to continue our support because we want the residents of Rubery to be in no doubt that we are determined their flooding problem is sorted out."
The council's executive cabinet will be asked, later this month, to consider making a "substantial contribution" towards the cost of the county's work.
