BROMSGROVE U14s 29 Old Silhillians U14s 22. Bromsgrove continued their unbeaten run with a close win over the best team they have played so far this season. David Hughes opened the scoring with a well taken try off the back of a scrum. The lead was extended when Matthew Hopkinson chased a planned kick ahead caught the ball and outpaced the defence for a well taken-try. Old Sils were not about to give up and responded with two well taken tries to level the scores. Bromsgrove needed to get some points on the board, as they had to play uphill in the second half. With a determined team effort they were rewarded with a second try by Hughes and a try from skipper Thomas Winterbottom. Hughes converted one to leave the half time score at 22-10.
The second half gave Old Sils the advantage of the slope and they were able to use this advantage and win the second half. Bromsgrove opened the scoring with a second try from Hopkinson converted by Hughes, but then had to resort to defence as Sils attacked for the rest of the game. Sils were rewarded with two well- taken tries and a conversion but were unable to overtake the score set by Bromsgrove.
Bromsgrove U13s 12 Silhillians U13s 5. After their recent run of poor results town performed more like their normal selves in the first game. The forwards played better as a unit and made good ground with the ball in hand. Back play was more fluent and stretched the Silhillians defence a number of times. An even first half finished with neither side scoring, and although Silhillians took the lead early in the second period Bromsgrove fought back with a try from Matthew Newman. Good defending kept Silhillians out and allowed town to pressurise, from which Ben Raybould scored a try which George Crook converted.
Bromsgrove U13s 7 Silhillians U13s 14. Town's development team played the second match but a move from a penalty gave Silhillians an early try. Town's confidence grew as the game progressed and a number of the lads started to perform well. Good running and handling was rewarded with a try for Sam Schofield converted by Scott Morris. With a player off the field for the last ten minutes of the match, town were made to work hard to keep Silhillians out. Inside the last minute the pressure told, and despite a good performance Silhillians scored their second try.
Dudley Kingswinford U16s 17 Bromsgrove U16s 15. The first 20 minutes of this cup tie were dominated by DK who were focused and determined, which led to two quick tries. Bromsgrove acted quickly to stay in the game and from a line out the ball was passed along the line for Adam Brookes to score in the corner, making the score 12-5.
Bromsgrove had taken control of the game and began to put the pressure on. Bromsgrove played some attractive rugby and were unlucky not to score when the ball was dropped over the line. Bromsgrove started to turn the screw and Pete Douglas managed to cross the line after a big forward drive. Bromsgrove sensed that DKs will had dropped and were probing hard to take the lead. Tom Rostrup managed to drive his way through DKs defence to score, putting Bromsgrove in the lead at 12-15. Bromsgrove defended their lead fiercely, but, in the eighth minute of injury time, DK took a scrum ball, passed it along their line to score in the corner and kill off Bromsgrove's cup hopes. Try scorers were Adam Brookes, Pete Douglas, Tom Rostrup and MoM Toni Casamassa.
